The fifth entry in this series of tonal mayhem digs up 18 more slices of the wild and woolly from the nether regions of rock & roll respectability. Other entries in the series always seem to have an underlying "theme" that ties together the myriad oddities, and this volume comes at the equation largely from the horror monster/weirdo stance this time around. With scream-infested howlers like Tom Kerry and the Rembrandts' "The Babylon Twist Party," the Concepts' "Jungle," and Sur Royal Da Count and the Parliaments' rhythmically challenged "Scream Mother Scream" and just plain weird "Sgt. Ralph York, USMC" sitting next to Baron Daemon and the Vampires' "The Transylvania Twist," Robin and the Batmen's Fendermen-like "Batskinner," the Zodiacs' tongue-in-cheek "Another Little Darlin'" and T. Valentine's (he of "Hello Lucille, Are You a Lesbian?" semi-fame) "Do the Do," this is perhaps the most no-holds-barred collection in the series to date. Three absolute must-hear tracks on this compilation are Instant Ralston's bad-folk-singer-on-acid "Rock and Mole," Unknown Demo, Jr.'s monotone-inflected version of "Blue Suede Shoes," and the Howlin' Bananas' two-part "Learn That Parrot to Talk," the world's first (and perhaps only) X-rated parakeet training record. Honest.
