THE YOUNG LOVERS - Barbarella - The Hit Songs Of The Wild Movie & Other Way Out Themes (US limited edition 9-track vinyl LP, originally released in 1968. Design was a subsidiary of the budget label Pickwick [who Lou Reed worked for prior to forming The Velvet Undergound], who churned out versions of popular hits, using anonymous session players - here they tackle the classic camp sci-fi romp starring Jane Fonda, alongside versions of 'Sabre Dance' and 'Hall Of The Mountain King', sealed picture sleeve)
A really nice little take on the Barbarella soundtrack. One that offers up some of the coolest tunes from the film, and throws in some other nice bits as well! The sound here is quite different than the original album, but equally groovy -- instrumental overall, and played by a combo that's got a really great little mix of organ, guitar, and a bit of sax. There's a slightly jazzy approach to the tunes and most of the numbers have an almost mod sort of feel. It's kind of halfway between Italian soundtrack work and some of the Soul Cargo instrumental generation.
This sealed reissue is sure to be a party pleaser...dig in!
